Regulatory compliance for chemical, cosmetic and biocidal products.
Training benefits
The safety assessment is the main instrument for protection of consumers of finished cosmetic products. This one-day training is designed to give participants an understanding of:
the legislation and guidance relating to the safety of cosmetics, particularly the Cosmetics Directive (67/548/EEC, as amended) and the SCCP Notes of Guidance
the key issues of risk assessment: hazard and exposure
the main areas of toxicity: skin and eye (mucous membrane) irritation, (photo)-sensitisation, systemic toxicity
animal testing, in vitro testing, and testing of the finished product on volunteers
other sources of information: databases, literature, structure–activity relationships
calculation of consumer exposures to cosmetic products and ingredients
practical, hands-on experience of using the rules to calculate margins of safety
General
Who should attend?
The training is aimed at anyone involved in the supply of cosmetic products, particularly those involved in safety, or production of the Technical Information File (also known as the Product Information Package, PIP). This training will not provide all the necessary detail to perform safety assessments, but will introduce the main principles and practices.
Practicalities
Training is offered to groups of ca. 8 to 14, involving presentations and practical exercises. Participant contribution and group discussion is encouraged to ensure individual expectations are met as far as possible within the group format. The course is offered at a public venue or at company offices. Courses run from approximately 9.30 am to 4.30 pm.
The day cost per delegate is currently ca. £240 (plus VAT), paid in advance. Variation in the programme (eg extending the time, or tailoring of the content) can be accommodated for in-house presentations, subject to mutual agreement. Alchemy Compliance reserves the right to cancel training in cases of low participant numbers, ill health of the presenter, or unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, Alchemy Compliance will inform participants as early as possible, and will refund all fees.
Requirements of attendees
Participants will need to feel comfortable with moderately technical discussions involving legal text, chemistry, toxicology and ecotoxicology.
Participants will require copies of the EU Cosmetics Directive (consolidated version of 76/768/EC) and the SCCP Notes of Guidance for the Testing of Cosmetic Ingredients and their Safety Evaluation. Alchemy Compliance can supply these documents at an extra cost.
Alchemy Compliance will provide all other training material and documentation.
